Howdy, friends!
It is my honor to present the 2023 Ozark A&M Club Aggie Muster speaker,
Dr. Gary Potter.

Dr. Potter grew up in Higden, Arkansas and worked on the family's diversified cattle, horse, and crop farms. He received his BS at Arkansas State College (now ASU) in animal husbandry and biology (1964). He then attended University of Kentucky and received his MS (1965) and PhD degrees
(1968) in animal nutrition, biochemistry, and physiology.
Early in his career, he immersed himself in the horse industry as a young faculty member at University of Kentucky. Then, in the late 60's he was recruited to Texas A&M by Dr. O.D. Butler, Head of the Animal Science Department, whose intention was to help Dr. Potter build a nationally recognized equine program. They started by expanding the horse center, then transitioned the equine labs & offices from the old Animal Industries building to the Kleberg Center, and later constructed the Equestrian Center, the Pierce Pavilion, and Freeman Arena.
The A&M equine program was booming & touching many facets of the industry: western quarter horses, cutting horses, equestrian jumping horses, draft horses & mules, Thoroughbred racing horses, and the list goes on.
In 2005, Dr. Potter retired from A&M and was named Professor Emeritus of Equine Science. At his retirement reception, a horse industry legend named B.F. Yeates summarized Dr. Potter's career best by saying this: "during his career, no one has done more for the horse industry than Gary Potter."
Gary and his wife, Charlotte, now live in Bentonville, AR.  They enjoy spending time in the area with their son Bill and his wife Kathy (both Aggies Class of '86), as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family & friends.

We are so blessed to have Dr. Potter share his unique perspective of Texas A&M and share some of his most memorable experiences in Aggieland.

Please join us this year at the Torres Family Barn in Siloam Springs on Friday, April 21st to eat a little, honor our fellow Aggie brothers and sisters that have passed, and hear Dr. Potter speak!  More info to come!

Thanks and gig’em!
