Aggie Ring In Motion

Stephanie Cannon '06 May 21, 2014 4:04 PM

This image, taken by Daniel Liu '04, was first published in Texas Aggie magazine in May-June 2011. He wrote that he was inspired to take this photograph after watching the movie Inception, in which a spinning top is an integral part of the plot.  “Since I don’t actually own a top, I figured my Aggie Ring would make a perfect substitute,” Daniel said. “I lucked out and got this shot after about 20 frames. I ended up taking close to 200 total on different surfaces and from different angles, but none of them was quite as good as this one.”

A compelling video of another spinning Aggie Ring was filmed at the Texas A&M National Aerothermochemistry Laboratory as an example of a "dynamic spin instability of an Aggie Ring illustrated at 10,000 fps." View it on YouTube.com
