Raul Hinojosa, Jr.

October 11, 1938 - September 12, 2023

Raul Hinojosa, Jr. passed away September 12, 2023 surrounded by family. Raul, Rule as he was known, was born in Rio Grande City on October 11, 1938 to Raul Hinojosa Salinas and Bertha Saldana Hinojosa. He was the eldest of three children, who all attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and Rio Grande City Public High School.

Raul attended Texas A & M University and graduated in 1961, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Master's degree in Physiology of Reproduction.

He married Elva Rosa Trevino on September 23, 1962, and they had three children: Raul III, Oscar Luis, and Yvette Denise. He was very family oriented and enjoyed time with his three grandchildren, Raul IV, Alyssa Rose and Sydney Nicole and two great grandchildren, Logan and Evelyn Rose.

Over the course of his life, Raul was a cattle rancher, a father, a professor and an agricultural scientist. His work took him to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Central and South America, as well as Africa. He taught at two prestigious universities in Mexico, El Tech de Monterrey and Universidad Autonoma Agraria Antonio Narro.

He lived and worked in Washington DC for 15 years before retiring to Sugar Land, Texas. After retiring, he and Elva traveled all over Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and the Middle East. He is survived by his two sisters, Bertha Cidelia and Noelia, as well as his wife Elva and his three children. He was very devoted to his wife and children: he loved reading and learning; and was constantly inventing things and lived a very full life.

A Mass in his memory was held on September 23, 2023 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in San Antonio.
