Current Texas A&M student Sam Bennett ’22 qualified for the 2022 United States Open Championship and tees off June 16 at 5:56 a.m. CDT for the four-day event.
Bennett is one of only 15 amateurs to qualify for the prestigious tournament this year. He’s the 2022 SEC Golfer of the Year and was a PING First Team All-American golfer in 2021 and 2022. Read more about Bennett’s season and A&M career at tx.ag/SamBennett22.
Three former students qualified for the Open. Adri Arnaus ’16 will tee off Thursday at 11:52 a.m. CDT after ranking into the tournament as the 53rd best player in the world, and Chandler Phillips ’19 and Andrew Lister ’15 qualified but will not participate.

In its 122nd year of play, the U.S. Open is the third major tournament of the 2022 professional golf season, being held in Brookline, Massachusetts, at The Country Club golf course. The other three major tournaments are The Masters, held at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia; The PGA Championship, held at the Southern Hills Country Club in Oklahoma; and the Open Championship, held at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.
