Scot Walker ’90 has been promoted from Assistant Vice President of Communications to Vice President of Communications for The Association of Former Students. Walker joined The Association staff in 2007 and worked closely with the previous Vice President of Communications, Kathryn Greenwade '88, who passed away Feb. 10. Walker filled the position on an interim basis during Greenwade's illness.
As vice president, Walker now leads The Association’s communications and web teams, Campus Programs including the Aggie Ring Program, advocacy and legislative affairs, and human resources.
He is also The Association's contact for all media inquiries, including requests for comment, arrangements to cover Association events and requests for interviews.
"Over the last 15 years, Scot has proven to be thoughtful and strategic in all that he does," said Association President and CEO Porter S. Garner III ’79. "He has exhibited great leadership, having served as editor of Texas Aggie magazine, while overseeing our monthly AggieNews newsletter and AggieNetwork.com website, as well as our @AggieNetwork social media outreach. He was instrumental in the creation of our 100K Plan and has long served as the voice of Aggie Ring Day, inspiring thousands of students and their families when students receive their cherished Aggie Ring."
Walker said, “Kathryn was not only my boss and mentor but also a beloved friend, and her absence leaves an enormous hole in our workplace and our lives. No one can ever fill Kathryn’s shoes, but I will work hard to serve The Association, to perpetuate our culture of professional team service, and to help Texas A&M and Texas Aggies.”
Before joining The Association, Walker worked 17 years as a newspaper reporter and editor; he earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Texas A&M and was honored as an outstanding journalism graduate.
