Five 1st Air Cavalry Brigade helicopters are set to conduct the Sept. 4 flyover – with Aggies among the pilots – for Texas A&M’s home football opener vs. Kent State. Gameday will also include the 20-year "Red, White and Blue-Out" commemoration and Reveille X's first pre-kickoff run onto Kyle Field, which she will make with a former mascot corporal!
The Association of Former Students provides support for gameday flyovers and Midnight Yell, and coordinates events to bring Aggies together such as Class Reunions, Young Alumni Weekend and, at away games, Yell Practice and free All-Aggie Tailgates.
Reveille X will make her first gameday run onto Kyle Field with last year's mascot corporal, Batie Bishop '23, instead of current handler Lucas Scroggins '24. Bishop didn't get to make those runs last fall with Reveille IX due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting on-field personnel. Scroggins said, "We're really excited for him" to take Rev X's leash for this run.
For the flyover, former students Col. Reggie Harper ’95, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Kurt Vordenbaum ’10 and Capt. Nick Schaefer ’11 will be among those representing the U.S. Army’s 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, based out of Fort Hood, Texas, with a CH-47 Chinook, a HH-60 Black Hawk and three AH-64 Apache helicopters.
If you’re an Association of Former Students donor, you help provide hotel accommodations for pilots and crew for home game flyovers. Thank you!
The 1st Air Cavalry Brigade’s mission is to deploy and conduct expeditionary aviation operations in support of unified land operations, combined arms maneuver and wide area security to ensure the success of the 1st Cavalry Division.
