Kerrville

Robert Kensing of Kerrville, formerly of Menard, passed from this life on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the age of 90? after battling Parkinson's and a heart condition.

He was born in Fredericksburg, Oct. 7, 1925, and spent his early years in the Reservation Community in Kerr County. Later he ranched in Real County at Camp Verde and Mountain Home. In 1955, he was drafted and spent his Army days in San Antonio as a dental x-ray instructor.

After he graduated from Texas A&M in 1960, his job was Agent Farm Management with the Texas A&M Ag Extension Service in San Angelo. In 1979, he was elected president of TAEX Specialist Association. He helped organize the 4 State Regional Pecan shows and loved judging the county, regional and state shows.

In San Angelo, he was involved with the Stock Show as Records Superintendent, President in 1980-1982 and after his term, he became Executive Vice President. The scholarship fund was established, land was purchased and the office built near the fairgrounds at this time.

He started his Spanish meat goat business, land improvement projects and Jim Bowie activities in Menard after his retirement from Extension.

In August 2015, he and Doris retired to Brookdale in Kerrville.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Henry and Anna Schnerr Kensing; two brothers, Monroe and Levi Kensing; and sister Alice Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Whitworth Kensing; nieces Mary Ann Stevens (Jim Bob), Linda Jung (Larry), Cynthia Quinn (Jim), Pamela Fogle (Gary), Ann Addison and Mary Mabry; nephews, Donald Phillips, Jack Phillips (Sharon), Keith Kensing, Michael Whitworth (Sheryl), David Whitworth (Diane), Charles Mabry (Allison) and Quentin Bierschwale (Sandi); aunts Ruby Sheppard and Helen Peril; brother-in-law V.C. Whitworth; and sisters-in-law Dauna Bierschwale and Barbara Mabry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Wilson, Dan Hall, Buck Owens, Duery Menzies, Allen Turner, Carl Kothmann, Jerry Johnson, Bill Dendy, Greg Eidelberg, Rob Whitesides and Hayden Woodard.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Grimes Funeral Chapels officiated by Rev. Scott Hoffmann and Rev. Charles Hagood.
