Linda Renee Perthuis Dunn On Sunday, November 6, 2011, Linda Renee Perthuis Dunn of Washington, DC, beloved wife of David Dunn, passed away. Renee was born on August 6, 1961 on Galveston Island, making her a 5th generation BOI - Born On the Island. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas and went on to study Agriculture at Texas A&M. One of her greatest passions was the Fighting Texas Aggie Spirit. She carried this spirit with her all of her life. It is this same spirit that propelled her fight to improve the lives and prospects of low-income toddlers. For the last 8 years Renee served as Program Director of the Head Start Program at the US Department of Health and Human Services. Perhaps her most enduring legacy there was her work with the National Indian Head Start Directors to drive improvement in the lives of Native American children.
In 1988 she met David Dunn during an interview. Not only did she get the job she also met the man who became the love of her life. David and Renee enjoyed 23 blissful years together, full of love and wonderful memories. Renee is survived by her husband, David; her brothers, Alfred Earl Perthuis and Robert Bernard Perthuis; nine nieces and nephews and; is the daughter-in-law of Jerry J. Dunn and Sue Dunn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Earl Perthuis and Gloria Anderson Perthuis.
There will be a Texas memorial service held in honor of Renee Perthuis Dunn this Friday, January 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Triumphant Love Lutheran Church, 9508 Great Hills Trail, Austin, Texas, 78759.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Children's Learning Institute to support the PALS parent training program at Texas Head Start Centers. Checks can be made payable to The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, noting it be directed to the Renee Perthuis Dunn Memorial Fund, and mailed to the following address.
