Franklin "Frank" Pollard '55

Frank Pollard '55, 74, of San Anselmo, Calif. (formerly of Olney), died Nov. 30, 2008. He earned a divinity degree from Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and a doctorate in ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored eight different congregations during his 40-year ministry. He pastored several churches in Texas including Dallas and San Antonio. He served the first Baptist Church of Jackson, Miss., for two decades and retired there in 2002, with an interim while he was president of the Golden Gate Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif. from 1983 to 1986. He was professor of preaching at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary until he retired in 2005. He was featured on The Baptist Hour and At Home with the Bible radio and television programs. He served two terms as president of the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Time magazine named him one of the seven most outstanding protestant preachers in America in 1979. He moved to San Anselmo in July 2008. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara; a son; a daughter; a granddaughter; and two brothers.
