William E. McKell '51, 87, of Provo, Utah (formerly of Spanish Fork, Utah) died October 5, 2007. He was a B-17 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was shot down over the North Sea and was a prisoner of war in Germany for two years in the Stalag Luft 3 and Stalag 7-A POW camps. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He taught in Utah at the junior high and high school levels, worked at the Utah State Office of Education, and was director of the industrial and business education departments of Granite School District. He retired as a professor at Brigham Young University in the industrial and vocational educational departments where he had served as department chairman. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Freda; five children; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister.
