Harold "Hal" Ramsden '41

Harold D. 'Hal' Ramsden '41, 89, of Seal Beach, Calif. (formerly of Bolton, England; Baltimore, Md.; Atlanta, Ga., and Galveston) died Nov. 13, 2008. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Fleet aboard the USS Gilbert Islands during World War II. He served aboard the USS Toledo during the Korean War. He moved from Long Beach, Calif., to Seal Beach in 2004. He was a marine engineer with Todd Shipyards, then with Bethlehem Shipyard. He then worked with Global Marine and traveled worldwide in the offshore oil drilling business, living in Anchorage, Alaska, from 1982 to 1985. After he retired, he worked as a consultant for various Los Angeles-Long Beach harbor businesses, including crane inspection. He was a past president of the Society of Port Engineers. He was named a fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in 1997. He was active in the establishment of the U.S. Merchant Marine SS Lane Victory maritime museum ship. Survivors include a son, three daughters and two grandsons.
