Lewis H. Marshall '38, 92, of Fort Worth (formerly of Little River) died April 5, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He taught vocational agriculture before joining the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service. He was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy. He stayed in Italy after the war was over and taught GIs agricultural courses at the University of Florence. He moved to Fort Worth after he received his master's degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., and returned to the Soil Conservation Service. In 1952, he moved to the North Star Ranch near Aledo and worked with Walsh Ranches for 48 years. He was inducted into the American-International Charolais Association's Hall of Fame in 1994. Survivors include three sons, George L. Marshall '72, Hugh B. Marshall '78 and Vernie C. Marshall '79; two daughters; 10 grandchildren, including Whitney Marshall Perry '03; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, J. Alton Marshall '37 and Ellis G. Marshall '55.
