Robert White '42 April 6, 2009 12:00 AM

Robert B. White '42, 88, of Dallas (formerly of Ennis) died March 16, 2009. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1944 with a medical degree and served an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital. He was a psychiatrist and instructor at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He finished his residency in neuropsychiatry in 1949 at UTMB in Galveston and at Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Mass. He returned to Galveston in 1962 and was professor of psychiatry at UTMB for more than 30 years. He produced more than 40 professional educational audio and video tapes. His video Please Let Me Die remains one of the most significant documentaries in contemporary medical ethics. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jimmie; a son; two daughters, including Margaret E. (White) Gilbert '78; and eight grandchildren, including M. Bryan Layton '05.
