James "Jim" Cunningham '42 June 7, 2010 2:06 PM

Published in (Fort Worth) Star-Telegram on May 2, 2010 James Morgan Cunningham(1920 - 2010) Jim Cunningham, 90, entered heaven Friday, April 30, 2010. Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at First Methodist Church of Arlington. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Arlington Funeral Home. Jim was born April 16, 1920, in Dexter to George Calvin and Mary Frances Cunningham. He was the youngest of seven children. Jim married Ann Collier in September 1942. They were married 67 years. He attended school in Whitesboro and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in 1942. Jim served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946. He received numerous awards and citations, including a Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, American Theater Medal with one bronze arrowhead and three bronze stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars. Jim earned his master's degree from Texas A&M in 1947. The thing he loved almost as much as his family was Texas A&M and being a fightin' Texas Aggie! He was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Soil Conservation Service retiring in 1977. He and Ann were charter members of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church of Arlington. Jim was the first president of that class. He was a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Claudia Kay Cunningham. Survivors: Wife, Ann Cunningham; daughters, Su Cunningham of Round Rock, Carole Taylor and husband, Van, of Bryan; sons, Jim Cunningham and wife, Martha, of Fort Worth, David Cunningham and wife, Pam, of Kennedale; grandchildren, Suzannah Taylor and husband, Jamie Antonson, Sally Reyes and husband, Rick, Charlie Cunningham and financee, Alexis Stock, Kaycee Crisp and husband, Brandon, Melissa Taylor, Whitney Cunningham, Christian Cunningham, Sam Cunningham and Callie Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Annie and Gracie Reyes; nephews, Jimmie Tom McDonnell of Whitesboro, Gene Thompson of Tyler, Jerry Tatum of Grand Island, Fla., and Dick Tatum of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.
