Published in The Bryan-College Station Eagle from May 1 to May 3, 2010 Claudie Coree Wren Claudie Coree Wren August 21, 1919 ' April 3, 2010 Claudie Coree Wren, of Gunnison, 90, went to be with his Lord on April 3, 2010, at the Gunnison Health Care Center
Living Community. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on April 8, 2010, at the Gunnsion Health Care Center, Pastor Chris Leukenga officiated and the Rev. Darrin Cowger, delivered a tribute; special music from Sally O'Conner; Desha and Steve Futrell; the
message and scripture reading were given by Pastor Chris. Claudie was laid to rest in Gunnison Cemetery. He was born August 21, 1919 in Iola, Grimes Co., Texas, to Claud and Reeda Wren. A graduate of Iola High School in 1936, he attended Westminster Junior
College in Tehuacana, Texas. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad when he was drafted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 1, 1942. Over the next two years he was stationed in Arkansas, California, the Aleutian Islands, Alaska and Texas. In June 28, 1944, Claudie
married Doris Ethel Isbell in Navasota, Texas where the now deceased Rev. Wayne Mc Cleskey performed the ceremony. On Dec. 10th of that year he boarded Queen Mary in New York, attached to the 9th Army Division. He spent the rest of WWII in Europe before re-crossing
the Atlantic on the Queen Mary docking in Boston, Mass. Sgt. Wren was discharged in San Antonio, Texas on Oct. 1945. His honors included an APTO ribbon with two Bronze Stars; an ETO ribbon with two Bronze Stars, and a Good Conduct Medal. His name is engraved
on the Brazes Valley Veterans Memorial in College Station, Texas. He enrolled at A&M University on the GI Bill, class of 1950 with a major in physical education. His employment included the Bryan U.S. Post Office; and part time with Athletic & Registration
Depts. at Texas A&M. In 1962, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve Center as an administrative clerk in Bryan, and was attached to 420th Engr Brigade. General Earle Rudder pinned his CWO-4 bars on. Claudie retired in 1979. Claudie made his profession of faith at
age nine in the Zion United Methodist Church of Iola, Texas. In 1952, was baptized in the Baptist faith by the now deceased Dr. Frank Pitts, in Central Baptist Church, in Bryan. He served as deacon, usher; boys royal ambassadors leader; taught in 4th grade
Sunday school classes; enjoyed "young at heart" and travels. He volunteered with the "Sunshine" Auxiliary College Station Medical Center for many years, the now deceased Rev. Mike Graham was the director at the time. Claudie coached little league baseball
at Bob Bond Park in Bryan and one year, took his team to District play-offs in Waco. He enjoyed reading and learning and never missed an opportunity to help others. He loved his hometown of Iola, and maintained ownership of the family house for many years
after the passing of his parents. He remained lifelong friends with his Iola classmates, always attending reunions. Claudie is former Commander of VFW Post No. 4692 in Bryan; and charter member of VFW Post No. 4006 in Navasota (Grimes Co.), Texas. In 1999,
Claudie and Doris moved to Washington Texas. They joined the First Baptist Church, in Navasota where Claudie served as deacon emeritus and the men's Bible class, 2nd Thursday group. They enjoyed country life; fishing, raising miniature donkeys, riding golf
carts, dog "Brownie", the beautiful blue bonnets and visits from "grands" and "greats" and other relatives and friends. In 2007 moved to Gunnison, Colorado. Claudie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Troy and La Rue Wiggins
Wren; his sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and G.C. Williams; and his sister, Dorothy Darby. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Ethel Wren; sons, Gary Wren and wife, Jan, of Gunnison and Billy Wren and wife, Michelle, of Spring, Texas; grandchildren,
Kevin Wren, Adam Wren, Melissa Wren, Aaron Wren, Nathan Wren, Caleb Wren, Alesha Wren, Desha Futrell, Sean Wren and Jami Echols; and great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Martinez, Elise Echols, Luke Wren, Zoe Futrell, Cadence Echols, Mara Wren, Emalie Martinez and
Simon Futrell. He is also survived by his sister, Betty and husband, Bevard Keele; as well a numerous of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks all of the wonderful caregivers; Home Health, Hospice and Palliative Care of the Gunnison Valley,
Meals on Wheels, the Gunnison Living Community, Dr. Jay McMurren and his staff and special nurse-friends, Sally O'Conner and Jeff Davis. They also thank the members of Central Baptist Church in Bryan, for many "prayergrams". May God bless you all. Pallbearers
