Lawrence "Larry" Flak '77

Lawrence H. 'Larry' Flak '77, 54, of Conroe (formerly of Houston, Richmond and Richardson) died May 20, 2009, of injuries received in a boating accident near Houma., La. He was a world-renowned drilling and well control engineering expert. He was project manager for the Kuwait Oil Co. and managed a 28-team staff that controlled 732 Kuwaiti oil well blowouts, approximately 600 of which were on fire, in post-war Kuwait in 1991. He worked for Boots & Coots from 1992 to 2004 where he managed a four-team staff of engineers and blowout/prevention/oil fighting in Southern Iraq in 2003. He had fought fires in Nigeria, the Falkland Islands and other areas. He was a registered professional engineer and registered petroleum engineer and was a senior technology engineer for Signa Engineering Corp., headquartered in Houston, at the time of his death.
