Thomas "Tom" McCord '40

Thomas F. 'Tom' McCord '40, 89, of The Woodlands (formerly of Houston and Brenham) died Nov. 4, 2008. He was a career U.S. Army intelligence officer but saw combat in The Pacific theater during World War II and in the Vietnam War. He was chief of the U.S. Military Liaison Mission to Group Soviet Forces, Germany, with fluency in Russian and German. He served as assistant deputy director of the Office of Counterintelligence and Security for the Defense Intelligence Agency. He retired at the rank of colonel. He was inducted into the Army Military Intelligence Corps Hall of Fame at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., in May 2005. While living in Brenham, he was a co-founder of Bread Partners of Washington County, a group distributing food throughout the county to those in need. He taught German at the Friendship Center in The Woodlands for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons; two stepsons; three daughters; 15 grandchildren, including Trevor C. Aston '10; three great-grandchildren; and a brother.
