Travis B. Bryan, Jr. '49, 87, of Bryan died Sept. 24, 2009, of complications of congestive heart failure. He served in the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet during World War II. He became chairman of the board of First National Bank in Bryan in 1964 and senior chairman in 1992. He was president of the bank for many years, until 2008. The bank, founded by his family in the 1860s, was merged with a Houston-based bank in 2006. The Bryan Municipal Golf Course was recently renamed the Travis Bryan Municipal Golf Course and Bryan High School was renamed Travis B. Bryan Jr. High School to honor him. Survivors include his wife, Norma; two sons, Travis B. Bryan III '69 and Timothy N. Bryan '72; five grandchildren, including Austin W. Bryan '95, Emily Bryan Bullion '06 and Elizabeth Bryan Landgraf '06; and seven great-grandchildren.
