Janet M. Doggett
September 2, 1965 - March 5, 2023
Janet M. Doggett, age 57, of Cambridge, passed away on March 5 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a valiant battle against cancer and liver disease.
Born in Evanston, IL, she was the daughter of Karle Ann and Lowell Goode. They later moved to Dallas for a short time before settling in Janet's hometown of San Antonio, where she enjoyed what she always considered an idyllic youth. Her parents nurtured her creativity, and she developed talents in piano and poetry. Her faith was an important part of her childhood, and she especially loved the summers she spent at the Laity Lodge Youth Camp in Texas. In high school, she was active in the Dance Team and graduated cum laude.
Janet went to Texas A&M University where she majored in Journalism in 1988. A proud Aggie, she would often recount stories of her roommates and lifelong friends Sandra and Susan, and the many escapades they had in those years. After working as a journalist and media writer in the Houston area for several years, she took a job at the local newspaper in Lubbock, TX, in 1991. There she met her husband, Tim, got married, and had their two beautiful children, Cassidy and Arthur. She also received a master's degree in creative writing from Texas Tech University. In 2003, Janet and the family moved to Wenham, MA, where she would spend the next 16 years raising the family. During that time, her battle with liver disease began; and although this kept her from continuing her journalism career, she was an active member of the First Congregation Church of Hamilton, spent much time painting watercolors, teaching, and writing and publishing poetry. During the last several years, Janet and Tim resided in Cambridge, where they became members of Old South Church in Boston, and she continued her love of painting and writing.
Janet is survived by her parents, Lowell and Karle Ann Goode (San Antonio, TX); her husband, Tim Doggett (Cambridge); her daughter, Cassidy Doggett (Peabody); her son, Arthur Doggett (Southborough); her brothers, Larry Goode (Austin, TX), and Paul Goode and sister-in-law, Ksenia Goode (Ottawa, Canada).
A Memorial Service will be held to honor Janet at Old South Church in Boston (645 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02116) at 2 PM on Saturday, March 18.
In lieu of flowers, Janet wished for memorial donations to be made to the American Liver Foundation in her name. https://liverfoundation.org/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give/donate-now/
