Randy Wayne Ray
June 19, 1965 - March 4, 2022
Randy Wayne Ray, 56, of Midland, TX passed away on March 4, 2022, in Mesquite, NV, having the time of his life.
Randy was born in Kansas City, MO to Donald Wayne Ray and Charlotte Jean Clawson Ray on June 19, 1965. He went to high school in Lee’s Summit, MO but couldn’t wait to get to Texas. While in high school he visited a cousin that was attending Texas A&M. She proceeded to lead him astray to the ways of Aggieland. He earned both a BS and MS in Petroleum Engineering. He got pretty good at it and traveled around Texas working for various oil & gas companies. He loved his work in that field!
He married Patricia Dittoe on October 9, 1993, because she would only get married in October but had the added pressure of getting it done before hunting season started. Was it mentioned he was an avid hunter? He always said he married Patricia to “right
a wrong”, she being a graduate of UT, while she said she married him to give him hope in life (because he was an Aggie). They had 2 children: Zachary Ray of Houston, TX, and Katie Ray of Chicago, IL. He brainwashed his half-Aggie half-Longhorn children to
attend Texas A&M and it worked-both proud Aggie graduates. He couldn’t have been more proud than when they received their Aggie rings and diplomas. One thing for sure, he beamed more than they did.
Randy was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church since 2002. He attained the rank of 4th degree within the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing in the Knights of Columbus golf league. He was an avid participant in the annual St. Ann’s Family Fair (chaired
it with his wife in 2006) and the ACTS retreats.
Randy’s second calling was as a travel agent. He traveled with his wife both far and wide. His destinations included the Panama Canal, the Arctic Circle, the British Isles, Italy, France, Greece, just to name a few. He made friends wherever he went.
Randy loved to cook for large crowds and always enjoyed entertaining large gatherings. He was really good at cooking meat!
Randy is preceded in death by both his mother (2018) and his father (2022).
