Melissa Booth '91 February 14, 2022 4:08 PM updated: February 18, 2022 8:37 AM

The Reverend Melissa Martin Booth
April 03, 1969 - February 2, 2022

The Rev. Melissa Martin Booth died February 2, 2022, after a brief illness. She was 52 years old.  Melissa grew up in Whitewright, Texas, and graduated from Whitewright High School. She was also a proud graduate of Texas A&M University.

After her graduation Melissa taught school while she discerned a call to the ministry.  She received her Masters of Divinity from Brite Divinity School and was ordained in the United Methodist Church. She served several churches in Texas before moving to California, where she used her fluency in Spanish to serve a Spanish-speaking congregation. Melissa found her calling as a hospice chaplain in California, where she also supervised students completing their clinical pastoral education.

In California she also found her husband Michael.  Together they moved back to Texas and Melissa began serving our veterans at the V.A. hospital in. Melissa’s family and longtime friends will remember her enthusiastic pursuit of her hobbies over the years, including dance, karate, and shooting sports.  Melissa also enjoyed the theater and traveling.  She always treasured the memories she made journeying across Europe after graduating from A&M.

Melissa’s parents, Mike '67 and Louisa Martin, and grandparents, Jack and Dorothy Lackey and George '43 and Louise Martin, all predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband Michael, and by many aunts, uncles (William '65), cousins, and friends, as well as the many individuals whose lives she touched in her ministry. Services will be announced at a later date.
