Molly O’Brien Ganter

Molly O’Brien Ganter, 56, of Friendswood, TX, passed April 2, 2019.

Molly was born to James E. O’Brien and Fay Flower O’Brien, December 18, 1962, in Houston, TX and was raised in Sargent, TX. She graduated as the salutatorian of the Van Vleck High School Class of 1981 and received a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Texas A&M in 1985. She married Garland Ganter, and they lived in Friendswood, TX. They shared a mutual love of travel and exploring new places.

She leaves as her legacy; two children: Blaine Ganter of League City, and Lauren Ganter of Houston, and two grandchildren: Rory Ganter of Santa Fe, and William Ganter of Santa Fe. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a passionate writer, ardent gardener, and loving mother/grandmother.

She also leaves, to cherish her memory, mother Fay O’Brien of Van Vleck, brothers and sister-in-laws James O’Brien Jr. and Guadalupe O’Brien of Sargent, John O’Brien and Stephanie O’Brien of Van Vleck, and Matthew O’Brien and Deborah O’Brien of Van Vleck and Corpus Christi, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by James E. O’Brien, (father), and Bridget O’Brien (sister).

Molly began her professional career as a Landscape Architect working stints at the National Park Service and Houston Parks Board. She transitioned into working as a Public Radio Executive for several years, until finally becoming a Middle School Teacher for the Pasadena Independent School District. A post that she served in until her passing. She was passionate about affecting positive change in her coworkers and students.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a rosary service beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Rev. James H. Kuczynski, M.S. officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Franciscan Monastery in Washington DC, the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston, the Van Vleck ISD Education Foundation, or the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation.The family would also like to thank Molly’s students, coworkers, and friends for their ongoing support throughout her life.
