Charles Michael “Mike” Gayle

July 9, 1944-March 30, 2019

Charles Michael Gayle, 74, of Bryan, TX passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019. Charles Michael, known as Mike to all of his friends and family, was born July 9, 1944 in Norfolk, VA at Langley Field Air Force Base to Col. Charles Afton and Mary Lee Gayle. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bryan, TX. He was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets and graduated from Texas A&M, class of 66’, with a degree in Agriculture. He went on to become a Vocational Agriculture Teacher, and this is where he became involved with and developed a passion for the National FFA Organization. He married his beloved wife, Marilyn Boyd Gayle in April of 1973, with whom he celebrated nearly 46 years of marriage. Together they had two daughters, Traci and Lauri. He retired from teaching Ag in 2000 after 32 years. After retirement, he and his wife Marilyn moved to Bryan, Texas, to be close to their children and four grandchildren, who he loved dearly: Luke, Emma, Cole, and Ty. Along with spending time with his family, Mike loved playing golf and fishing, and he was passionate about attending or watching Aggie sporting events.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Col. Charles Afton and Mary Lee Gayle; his sister, Nance Allen; and nephew, Mark Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Gayle of Bryan, TX; daughters, Traci Jones of Bryan, TX, her husband Mykal and their three children, Luke, Emma, and Cole; Lauri Dean of Madisonville, TX her husband Casey and their son, Ty; 3 brothers, Steven Gayle of Waco, TX, Bill Gayle of Grapeland, TX and Jeff Gayle of Grapeland, TX; 2 sisters, Patti Huff of Grapeland, TX and Kathy Shuman of Angleton, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Steven Gayle, Bill Gayle, Jeff Gayle, Mykal Jones, Casey Dean, Luke Jones, Cole Jones, and Ty Dean; and Honorary Pallbearers will be Lewis Breeland, Harvey Toon, and Harold Dodson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3rd in the Bluebonnet Chapel of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan, TX 77801.

The Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 506 E. 28th St., Bryan, TX with the graveside service to follow at College Station Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Rick Sitton will be officiating. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan, TX.
