Dr. Robert R. Hase ‘66

Robert R. Hase, New Port Richey, Florida passed away on January 7, 2018. He, began his career as a veterinarian in Pasco County, Florida, in 1972, where he served as the Medical Director of the Bayonet Point Animal Clinic for 45 years. He received his BS in Animal Science from A&M in 1967 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M in 1970. Dr. Hase was a respected and influential servant of his community as a practicing veterinarian, business owner, civic leader, and active member of state and local veterinary associations, where his dedicated service and professionalism made positive and lasting impacts. He was a member of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA) for 44 years and served on various committees. Dr. Hase, as a member of the College Advisory Committee, was instrumental in establishing the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida. He also served as Chairman of the FVMA’s Legislative Committee and was a long-standing member. In 2017, the FVMA honored Dr. Hase with its Distinguished Service Award. He was also a Gold Star Award recipient in 2009 and received the FMVA Veterinarian of the Year Award in 1998.

Dr. Hase served for more than 40 years as a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and attained the status of Honor Roll Member. He was also a member of the Suncoast Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. He served on the Pasco County Animal Control Advisory Board. He was recognized by Pasco County for his professional achievements and dedicated public service to the county and the State of Florida.

As a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, father-in-law, and friend, Dr. Hase was equally committed. He and his wife, Margaret, celebrated their 50th year wedding anniversary in December. He enjoyed watching his loved ones grow and always celebrated their successes. Dr. Hase was genuine, tough but loving, and always true to his word. Though he made Florida his home, he never lost his love of the State of Texas. In addition to his family, his other loves included the Withlacoochee River, Bar-B-Q, and country music. He would do anything for his friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Robert R. Hase, 73 of New Port Richey died January 7, 2018. Survived by wife, Margaret; son, Robert R. III; daughter, Katherine (Drew); brother, Nils (Chris) and three grandchildren, Hudson, Paige and Van. Veterinarian at Bayonet Point Animal Clinic for more than 40 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UF Vet School scholarship fund.

There will be a gathering from 1-4 pm at the funeral home on Saturday January 13 followed by a memorial service at 4:00.
