April 11, 1963 - July 24, 2016
Karen Marie High went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 24, 2016 after her four and a half year long journey with colon cancer. The family will be receiving friends and family at an open house visitation at the High’s home on Friday, July 29, 2016
from 7:00 until 9:00 in the evening. The memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am on Saturday, July 30 at Trinity Anglican Church in Atlanta.
Karen was born on April 11, 1963 in Houston, Texas and attended school at Herod Elementary, Johnston Junior High and Westbury High School. She received her BBA in Finance in 1985 from Texas A&M University, and soon after, she earned her CPA and went to work
as a Tax Auditor for Price Waterhouse before making the decision to stay home to raise her family. Karen married her college sweetheart, Gary High, of Sweetwater, Texas on March 29, 1986. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Karen and Gary
lived in Dallas, Texas for 8 years and had their first child, Catherine Marie, there in 1993. They moved to Montgomery, Alabama in 1994, where their second daughter, Camille Lanier, was born in 1997. They were able to reconnect to their Texas roots in 1998
when they moved to The Woodlands, Texas, and there, they raised their young daughters through their elementary years surrounded by the closeness and love of their immediate family. In 2007, the family moved once again – this time to Johns Creek, Georgia, where
they continue to reside.
Karen was an active participant and leader in a variety of organizations near and dear to her heart. While in The Woodlands, she was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was in charge of their Vacation Bible School for 3 years. After moving to Atlanta,
Karen passed down her joy of serving to her girls by participating with them in National Charity League and serving as the organization’s treasurer. Together, they contributed over 2000 hours of service in various ways throughout the community. Karen was an
active member of Trinity Anglican Mission, helping in the nursery whenever possible. She volunteered in numerous ways in the Wesleyan School Community, where her daughters went to school. Karen loved to travel and did so extensively with her family. One particular
favorite destination frequented by the family was St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Karen is survived by her husband, Gary High, daughter, Catherine Fithian and her husband, Drew Fithian of Atlanta and daughter, Camille High of Johns Creek. She is also survived by her mother, Carol Harrod of College Station, Texas, her sister, Kathy Newland,
and her husband, Steve, and nephews Jack and Garrett Newland, all of Keller Texas. She also leaves behind Louie, her devoted Norwich terrier.
