Funeral services for Gary Freeman Lackey, 64, of Atascocita, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 18th, 2016, in the chapel of Kingwood Funeral Home with Steve Cowart officiating.
Gary was born in Beaumont, Texas on November 9, 1951, and lived the majority of his life in Lufkin, Texas and the Houston area. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1970 and Texas A&M University in 1973 with a B. S. degree. He immediately began teaching in the Pasadena Independent School District. After teaching he attended St. Mary's School of Law where he received his J.D. in 1989. Immediately after graduation he began his career in law until his recent retirement in 2015.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Pauline Lackey, brother Larry Lackey and sister Laura Ann Cox.

He is survived by his four children: Ashley Gardner, Colin Lackey, Cory Lackey, Kevin Lackey, and his grandchildren, Vera Gardner and Trent Gardner. He is also survived by sister Debbie Lackey Schwander and husband Billy Schwander, and by nieces Sheila Shedd, Shannon Cox; nephews Will Schwander and Nate Schwander. In addition, he is survived by many other supportive cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m Sunday, April 18th, 2016, at Kingwood Funeral Home. Services have been placed in the trust of Kingwood Funeral Home.
