James Richey McCullough
Wednesday December 28, 1949 - Sunday March 13, 2016

James Richey McCullough a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, March 13, 2016, at home, at the age of 66.

He was born December 28, 1949, in Texarkana, Arkansas. He graduated from Hooks High School in 1968 and entered Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas. He graduated from TAMU in 1972 with a degree in accounting. He worked as an internal auditor for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation until December 1976 at which time he moved to De Queen as a CPA. He retired February 1, 2016.

He coached his first baseball team in College Station, Texas in 1971 and coached many teams, finally stopping in 2001. He umpired baseball games for a number of years. The highlight of his coaching came when his team won the Dixie Majors State tournament in 2000 and went to the Dixie World Series in Euless, Texas.

He served as Justice of the Peace on the Sevier County Quorum Court and was treasurer of the Arkansas Republican Party in the late 80’s, serving as a state delegate to the 1988 Republican National Convention for President George Bush.

He shot tournament archery in Louisiana and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the NRA.

He took great pride in serving his clients as a tax and business consultant and CPA and enjoyed his work tremendously. His greatest love was for his God and his family. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Mr. McCullough was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Malderine McCullough and one sister, Vera Jean McCullough.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nita Ann Huddle McCullough of De Queen; one daughter, Olivia Susan Martin and husband Jess of Malvern, Arkansas; one son, James Dalton McCullough and wife Christy of De Queen; six grandchildren, Brittany, Ashlee and Beau McCullough and Carter, Ethan and Jude Martin; four brothers, Ed Birmingham of Texarkana, Arkansas, Eric Birmingham of Worthington, Ohio, Steven McCullough of Katy, Texas and Rodney “Jack” McCullough of De Queen and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. McCullough will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Trauger and Jason Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Cossatot Cemetery in Gillham.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, at the funeral home.
