October 26, 1939 - January 28, 2016

DR. JERRY ZANE KENDRICK Dr. Jerry Zane “Doggie” “Doc” Kendrick, 76, passed away Thursday, (January 28, 2016) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born October 26,1939, the son of the late Gerald Zane “Red” and Marion E. Kisner Kendrick. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife Linda J. Fultz Kendrick and brother-in-law Donald Seay. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Susan Mason Kendrick; two sons, David Zane Kendrick of Houston, TX and Jeffrey Scott Kendrick of Waxhaw, NC; one sister, Joan Seay of Albany, GA; grandchildren Jacob Zane Kendrick, Grace Noelle Kendrick, Lindsey Marie Kendrick, and Kelly Lynn White. A 1957 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, Jerry excelled at football and basketball. He attended Fairmont State University and completed his undergraduate work at West Virginia University. Jerry graduated in 1963 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University Veterinary School. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force where we achieved the rank of Captain. His seven-year tenure included assignments to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs; an epidemiological unit in Manila, Philippines; and the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA. During that time, Jerry earned an M.S. in Laboratory Animal Medicine from Texas A & M University and went on to complete his board certification in that field. Affectionately known as “Doggie,” Jerry returned home to Fairmont and founded Middletown Animal Clinic. There, he utilized his gifts-his intellect and kind, gentle and loving spirit-to care for animals and mentor future veterinarians for 41 years. An avid golfer, Jerry played courses across the U.S. and abroad. He enjoyed years of memorable golf outings as a longtime member and past board member of Fairmont Field Club. He was also a member of Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport and a former Rotarian. “Doggie” was a devoted fan of WVU sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers. While stationed in Colorado Springs with the Air Force, he learned to ski and enjoyed skiing in West Virginia for many years. Jerry seized a life he lived to the fullest. His easygoing nature and fun-loving personality blessed all those he encountered. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jerry's memory to the Pet Helpers, Inc., 726 East Park Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554: the Marion County Humane Society, P. O. Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26555; or the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston, WV 26431. Friends will be received at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Monday, February 1, 2016 from 2 ??" 8 PM, and on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 11 ??" 1 PM. A celebration of Jerry's life will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1PM with Dr. Gary McCutcheon officiating. Internment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown.
