James Joe Doyle
1918-2015
James Joe Doyle, Sr, Colonel US Army (ret), age 97, went to be with his Lord and heavenly family Oct 18, 2015. He was born and grew up in Houston, TX, where he met his lifelong sweetheart Lucy Love Doyle, to whom he was married almost 61 years until her death.
He graduated from Sam Houston High School and then from Texas A&M College as a chemical engineer and Army 2nd Lt. He served his country on active duty from 1941-46 achieving the rank of major, then in the ready reserve until retirement at the rank of colonel.
He fought in every major battle in Europe in WWII as a decorated exec officer of the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion Motorized. He reared his family while he worked as an engineer and in management at Baroid in Houston for 45 years, retiring as Vice President.
He was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers. He belonged to Baptist Temple Church for over 70 years, where he served as Chairman of Deacons and Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents George Vernon and Maggie Cliffe Doyle,
his wife Lucy Love Doyle, and his daughter Dr. Susan Doyle Lyons Parham. He is survived by his sister Mary Vivian Doyle Keese (Van and son Dr. Larry) and children, James Joe Doyle, Jr (Marjorie), Dr. Eileen Doyle Brewer (Dr. Joseph Corriere), Terry Doyle (Susan),
Dr. Timothy Doyle; son-in-law Ralph Parham; grandchildren Heather Doyle Young (John), Lt. Col. James Shannon Doyle (Dr. Lisa), Dr. Sean Doyle (Sarah), Pat Doyle, Taylor Doyle; and great grandchildren Caroline, Graham, and Turner Young; Connor, Cody, Maggie
and Lucy Doyle. We were blessed to have had his wisdom, strength, counsel and devotion to family and friends for so many years. He was revered and loved by the men of the 86th. He was a great man to all who knew him. Funeral Service will be Oct 24, 2015 at
11 am at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home Chapel, Houston, Texas with visitation Oct 23, 2015 from 6-9 pm and burial Oct 26, 2015 at 11 am at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to contribute to Honor Flight Houston.
