Memorial service for Dr. Jerry Ray Berryman will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Parkview Baptist Church in Las Animas, Colorado with Pastor Nathan Gumke and Pastor Richard Ballard officiating. A private interment at Fort Lyon National
Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Dr. Jerry Ray Berryman affectionately known as “Doc” was born on March 28, 1931 in Ada, Oklahoma, to Lester Hiram and Stella Tate (Hart) Berryman. He passed away on September 9, 2015 at his home in Las Animas, Colorado, at the age of 84.
Jerry married Marlene Swafford on February 10, 1951 in Lefors, Texas. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and when his service was completed, he attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1960 with his Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine degree. He first practiced in Beeville, Texas for thirteen years, where he served as Mayor in the late 1960’s. Doc Berryman opened his practice in Las Animas in 1975, where he continued to practice for 40 years, and touched many lives. Jerry loved
to camp and fish, spending many summers in the Rocky Mountains with family and friends. He also loved packing into the mountains on horseback.
Dr. Berryman is survived by his wife, Marlene of Las Animas, Colorado; son, Dale Berryman of Pueblo, Colorado; daughter Eileen Squires of Pueblo, Colorado; grandson, Lee Squires of Fort Collins, Colorado; granddaughter, Maggie (Sean) Gallup of Hinesville, Georgia;
sister Bobbie Akers of Tyler, Texas; nieces, Linda Akers, Merri (Randy) Hardin, Stancy (Elton) Simpson, Lisa (Allen) Reed; nephews, Paul (Wendy) Akers, Steve (Deborah) Berryman, Wallace (Cindy) Berryman; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lynn Berryman; his brother, Eddie Berryman; son-in-law, Ty Squires; brother-in-law, Cliff Akers; and sister-in-law Wanda Berryman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice and/or Parkview Baptist Church, directly or in care of Horber Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 431, Las Animas, CO 81054.
