PHILLIP HICKMAN(1958 - 2015)
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Phillip Dean Hickman, 56, went Home with our Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2015. For six years he fought a valiant battle against colon cancer, with more grace, courage, dignity, and strength than anyone could imagine. He showed us how to embrace life and not take anything for granted. Our ordinary, daily activities became extraordinary and helped us create memories to last a lifetime. He was born in Abilene, Texas on September 21, 1958 to Wallace and Betty Hickman, who preceded him in death. He was raised in Mullin, Texas on the family ranch. He attended Tarleton State University for two years, then transferred to Texas A&M University to peruse a degree in Agriculture Engineering. He received his Bachelors in 1982 and Masters in 1985. He worked for Lummus Industries in Lubbock before moving his family to Clint. For the last 25 years Phil was the gin manager of Valley Gin Company in Tornillo. He was a valued member of the Texas Cotton Ginners Association for more than 20 years, holding various officer positions. He was also the current president of the Texas Cotton Ginners Trust Board. He was selected as National Cotton Ginner of the Year in 2009 and Texas Ginner of the Year in 2010. Phil is survived by his bride of 33 years, Kellye, sons Royce (Amy) and Bryce (Kara), and daughter Kyla, granddaughter Halle, and sister Carole Hendley (Roy Don). Other survivors include father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and LaTonne Enright, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kirk and Rene Fuller, 2 nephews and 2 nieces. Visitation will be held at San Jose Funeral Home-Fabens, on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 5-7:00PM. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Valley Gin, on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 10:00AM. As a tribute to his memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to his church, Bond Memorial UMC, P.O. Box 185, Clint, TX 79836, or a favorite charity of your choice . Services by San Jose Funeral Home-Fabens (915) 764-2254.
