Rebecca McWilliams McAfee Wheeler (58) went to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 22, 2015. Rebecca passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and many exceptional friends at Memorial Hermann Memorial City in Houston, Texas. Rebecca was born on August 30, 1956 in Bryan, Texas to Betty Howell McWilliams Lormand of Montgomery, Texas and Morris Hampton McWilliams (Mac) formerly of Magnolia, Arkansas. While attending Texas A&M University Rebecca met her first husband, Will McAfee. Their son, Shane Hampton McAfee of Houston, graduated from Texas A&M with a BS in Animal Science. Rebecca's daughter, Kristen Wheeler, is a junior at Texas A&M majoring in Political Science.
Rebecca delighted in being a mother and considered it her greatest accomplishment. The family lived in Bellaire where both of her children attended and graduated from St. Thomas' Episcopal School. Rebecca was a beautiful, unique, vivacious and free-spirited soul. She will always be remembered for her fun-loving and gregarious personality. Rebecca was an avid reader and animal lover. Her greatest love was any time she spent with her children and precious grandchildren.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, Morris Hampton McWilliams, her grandparents, George and Idelle McWilliams, her great aunts, Bertha Johnson and Geraldine Coker, her brother, Mike McWilliams, her grandmother Ruth Howell, her cousin David McAnulty, and her uncle James McAnulty. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Natalie McAfee and their two sons, Noah Robert McAfee and William Vandegrift McAfee, her daughter Kristen McAfee Wheeler, parents Betty and Leroy Lormand, sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Steve Jordan, brother Mark Hampton McWilliams, sister-in-law Ginny McWilliams, her Aunt, Judy McWilliams McAnulty, niece Meryl McWilliams, nephews, Chris, Michael and Sam Jordan, cousins Debbie McAnulty Hoard and Dan McAnulty.
Rebecca touched many lives and she will be greatly missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, August 30, 2015, at 3:00pm at West University United Methodist Church at 3611 University Blvd Houston, Texas 77005; 713.664.8111. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the St. Thomas' Episcopal, St. Thomas' Fund in Memory of Rebecca.
