Alan Duane Waldie
April 23, 1928 - August 22, 2015
Alan Duane Waldie, 87, passed away Saturday morning August 22 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday August 26 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Rev. John Maurer officiating. Family will receive friends from 5 – 7p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Alan was born April 23, 1928 in Iowa Park, Texas the son of Norman and Hazel (Miers) Waldie. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1945, four days after graduating he entered Texas A&M College and joined the "Fighting Texas Aggie Band" and played
the snare drum. Alan left A&M to serve in the U.S Navy from 1946 to 1948; and returned to Texas A&M the fall of 1948. He graduated in 1951 receiving his BS degree in Electrical Engineering, during his senior year; he was a Drum Major for the "Fighting Texas
Aggie Band". After graduating Alan was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps serving from 1951 to 1953.
After his discharge from the Army, Alan moved to Houston to begin his career as an Electrical Engineer. He worked 44 years in various positions, spending eleven years in Houston, two years in Tripoli, Libya and thirty-one years in Calgary, Alberta Canada. He
retired in 1995 and moved back to College Station.
In 1996, Alan met and married Nancy Byer and settled into a wonderful retired lifestyle. He volunteered many years at the George Bush Presidential Library. Alan was a member of Bryan Rotary Club and Central Baptist Church.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ann Waldie and a brother, Ronald Waldie.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Waldie; son, Stephen A. Waldie; stepdaughters, Lisa Bush and her husband Tim, Julie Clark and her husband Mike; brother-in-law, John Bogard and his wife Penny; nephew, Charles Waldie; nieces, Shari Waldie and Marci Adington;
and their mother Marilyn Tracey.
