Lloyd Paul Hopwood, 77, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at his home in Lubbock, Texas. Lloyd was born February 23, 1938 in Salisbury, Illinois.

He graduated in 1956 from Doniphan High School in Doniphan, Missouri.

Lloyd served in the Reserve of the Army National Guard for 8 months, then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 until his discharge in 1960. During his enlistment, he completed his basic training at Lackland AFB and his technical training in weather at Chanute AFB. Upon completion of his schooling he was assigned to Albrook AFB in the Panama Canal Zone where he completed his enlistment. During that time he played basketball for the Albrook AFB team.

Lloyd began his employment as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in 1960. He retired in 1995 after more than 39 years of combined federal service.

He also graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, William and Villa Hopwood; brothers, Warren, Kenneth, Glen, Earl; and sister, Evelyn Herr.

Lloyd is survived by his daughters, Deborah Robinson and Deanna Martin; son in law, Robert Martin; grandchildren, Ryan Robinson, Summer and Beau Martin; sisters, Phyllis Bast, June Beveridge of Springfield, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lloyd will be remembered most by friends and family for his witty, dry sense of humor and his kind hearted generosity, especially for veterans charities. He was also an avid Aggie football fan and enjoyed watching their games.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 1:00pm with Mike Davis officiating.
