Grover Quentin Pickering
1943 - 2015
Grover Quentin Pickering passed away on Saturday, June 20th at his home in Charleston, TX.
A memorial service for Mr. Pickering will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Cooper, TX. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction
of the Delta Funeral Home. A reception will be held at the home of Danny and Jennie Pickering after the interment.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Lewis Bedwell, Ronnie Buchanan, Sam Falls, Bill Flanary, Ron Hobbs, James Garza, Larry Dale Goforth, Bud Patterson, Eddie Preas, Billy Jack Silman, Eddie Trapp, and Joel Ed Young.
Grover Quentin Pickering was born in Paris on November 24th, 1943, the son of Gwen and Grover D. Pickering. He grew up in Kensing and later moved to Cooper. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1962.
Grover Quentin attended Texas A&M University at College Station. Grover married Karen Williamson in 1964. In 1966 his son Grover Henderson Pickering was born in Bryan, Texas. That same year Grover Quentin graduated with his bachelor's degree in business. Upon
graduation, they moved to Richardson, TX where they lived for thirty five years. During those years he worked at Texas Instruments, LTV,Continental Emsco, and Lockheed Martin. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, Grover and Karen moved to Charleston where
he loved being in the country again.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Grover D. and Gwen Blankenship Pickering.
Grover is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen; son Grover Henderson Pickering and wife Joy, two grandchildren Alison Grace and Daniel William of Murphy; brother Danny Pickering and wife Jennie, and Jennie's mother Betty Wiggins of Charleston; niece Dana
Pickering Garza and husband James, great nephews Zachary and Jake of Corpus Christi; nephew Welton Pickering and wife Jeri, great nephew Winston of Charleston; and many beloved cousins.
