Elizabeth Estes Barry, Ph.D
1919-2015
Elizabeth Estes Barry died in Houston at age 95 on June 2, 2015 following a stroke the previous week. Elizabeth grew up in Pawhuska OK, and lived for many years in Tulsa before moving to Houston with her husband, Charlie, who was a petroleum engineer, in the
early 1960s. She and Charlie built a home in Piney Point Village where she lived until her stroke.
She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and after raising a family continued her education first at Tulsa University, and then the University of Houston from which she received BA and MA degrees. She was
highly motivated to obtain a doctorate, and in 1978 entered the Ph.D. Program in Psychology at Texas A&M University. She graduated in 1982 at age 62. She subsequently practiced clinical psychology for 28 years, retiring only 5 years before her death. She was
a highly skilled clinical psychologist, and combined extensive knowledge of the latest psychology techniques and theories with a compassionate and wise human approach, learned from her many life experiences. In her clinical work, she helped numerous people
in Houston through psychological difficulties, many of whom became close friends. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Charles B Barry, by her son Charles E Barry, and by her grandson, Jeffrey Barry. She is survived by her son William H Barry of Salt Lake City UT and Jackson Hole WY; by three granddaughters, Susannah Barry, of Columbia
MO; Rebecca Barry, of Phoenix AZ; and
Andrea Barry-Smith of Seattle WA; and by four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for early November 2015. For information please e-mail william.barry@me.com
