John W. Davis, Jr.
October 9, 1926 - October 18, 2013
John W. Davis, Jr., age 87, of Waxahachie, a loving and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully on October 18, 2013. He was born in Reagor Springs on October 9, 1926 to John and Faye Davis (nee Blackburn). At 16, having graduated from Waxahachie High School, he went to Texas A&M University where he formed lifelong friendships and graduated with a degree in Engineering.

After serving in the US Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War, Big John’s insatiable passion for travel and his career with Ken Davis in the oil business lead him to live in Caracas, New York, Libya and London. Also travelling extensively in Japan, the Middle East, Europe, Mexico and Latin America he embraced and respected diverse cultures, beliefs, and peoples. With his warm and generous nature, bonhomie, and an infectious love of living he built lasting friendships everywhere from the Swinging 60s in New York and London, to Arabs in the Sahara, Lairds in the Scottish Highlands, and in later years with his wife Anita amongst the vineyards and chateaux of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Provence. After retiring he loved living amongst the splendid pecan trees of the house they shared in the country outside of Waxahachie, watered from the spring that in years gone by was a stop on the Chisholm Trail.

He is survived by his wife Anita in Waxahachie, in England by his son John Alan Davis (son of Marlene Davis) and daughter-in-law Jacquie, and his grandson John Tristan Perryman Davis, and in Florida by his niece Brenda Street Sinquefield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister Ena Street.

As well as being a Citizen of the World, Big John was a Son of the Republic, with family in Texas since before its independence from Mexico. He was a dedicated supporter of the historic Boren-Reagor Springs Cemetery where antecedent Borens, Blackburns and Cookes lie under the beautiful oak trees.

A funeral service is scheduled for Ten o’clock A.M. on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 624 Ovilla Road, Waxahachie, Texas 75165. Interment will follow at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to St. Paul Episcopal Church, 624 Ovilla Road, Waxahachie, Texas 75165.
