Delmar C. Fehrenkamp of Columbus, Texas passed away on April 11, 2013 in Columbus. Delmar was born in Frelsburg, Texas on August 12, 1925.
He is survived by Virginia Mae “Ginner” Wallace Fehrenkamp, his high school sweet heart and beloved wife of 64 years. Delmar and Virginia have two sons, David Fehrenkamp and grandson Brad Fehrenkamp and wife Kaley and great granddaughter Hadley; granddaughter
Kristen Rudolph and husband Ahren and great grandson Brody; son Robert “Bob” Fehrenkamp and wife Carol and granddaughter Allison Fehrenkamp and granddaughter Melanie Duncan and husband Randall and great grandsons Mitchell and Landon and great granddaughter
Kendall, grandson Dana Tew and wife Nicole and great granddaughter Hannah; and one sister, Delores Purcell.
Delmar was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Charles Fehrenkamp, mother, Henrietta E. Ordner Fehrenkamp, brother-in-law, Ed Purcell, and niece, Kim Hardy.
Delmar served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1948.
Delmar ran a local general merchandise store with his father and uncle from 1949 until 1979. He retired for several years. He then started work at the Columbus State Bank in 1981 where he served as president from 1986 thru 1994. He had many cherished memories
of the people he worked with there.
Delmar was a gun trader from the time he was a young man. He enjoyed going to the gun shows in Houston. He also spent many evenings at Donald Dennis Gun Shop with many local friends talking about guns and hunting. He especially enjoyed quail hunting with his
friend Bub Baumgart. He, also, enjoyed meeting friends every Tuesday night for the weekly card game. He was a part of this group for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Lions Club for 60 years, Columbus Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 383, past Columbus Independent School District Board Member for 15 years, Board of Directors at Columbus State Bank, and St. Paul Lutheran Church Council.
A funeral to celebrate his life took place at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 13 with Pastor Samuel Brannon officiating.
Interment followed in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers were Brad Fehrenkamp, Gary Purcell, Ernest Baumgart, Jr., Ahren Rudolph, Dr. Charles Moeller and Leslie Heinsohn. Honorary pallbearers were the Columbus State Bank Board of Directors;
Philip Gates, Ronney Frank, Tom Hancher, M.D., Robert H. Henneke, John H. Massey, Dwight Mazac, Jerry Mikeska, Earl Pitchford, Chris Stein, Andrew Schobel, and Jerome Dvorak.
