Memorial Services for Jack Morris Odell, 92, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with The Reverend Sam McClain officiating. A reception will follow in the church parish hall.
Jack was greatly loved by his family and friends, and he loved them all with strong and joyful enthusiasm. He was a man of high integrity and honor, delightful humor, and a faithful heart. Jack was also an expert 42 player, famous maker of "square biscuits"
and "Grandpa's Beans," and a connoisseur of fine food and wine. He had passionate opinions on everything from politics to not putting ketchup on meat, and he wasn't shy about expressing them. He enjoyed hunting - particularly dove - and was a dead shot. Fishing
was also a great joy - especially the years he got to fish for rainbow trout in the Colorado Mountains. He loved a party and always wanted lots of friends and family around.
Jack was born in Haskell, Texas on December 27, 1920, to AD and Elsie Lee (Therwhanger) Odell. He graduated from Abilene High School and then from Texas A&M (class of '42). He married Lois Mildred Merritt on June 20, 1942, in Seattle, Washington.
Jack was employed by Anderson, Clayton & Company in various capacities for 35 years and was frequently transferred. The family lived in a number of places in Texas, and also in Iowa, Arizona, and South Africa. After retiring in 1984, he and Lois moved to the
Wendy Lou Ranch south of Stephenville. He served as a business manager there for about 20 years. They moved into Stephenville in 2007.
Jack was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the Uvalde Masonic Lodge, and Toastmasters International.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Odell of Stephenville; daughter, Karen Burnup and husband Mickey, of Austin; son, Michael Odell and wife, Debbie, of Stephenville; grandchildren, Julie and Darren Habetz of Houston, James and Kristen Burnup of Pearland, Terri
and Kevin Binkley of Stephenville, and Glenn and Kristin Odell of Houston; and nine great-grandchildren. Also, a brother, Thomas Gordon Odell, and sisters-in-law, Glee Odell and Frances Merritt. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacy Anne Odell,
