"Dear Friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you...Do everything without complaining and arguing so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life...I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my life was not useless. I will rejoice even if I lose my life , pouring it out like a liquid offering to God. I want all of you to share that joy. Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy."

It is with extreme sadness that I confirm the deaths of cadets Amy Pacheco '16 and Miguel Hernandez '16 today in a car accident in Houston. Both were members of the Corps of Cadets. Amy, a freshman Construction Science major, and Miguel, a freshman General Studies major, were both from Houston and were both in Company B-1 in the Corps of Cadets. Both were also members of the Darling Recruiting Company.

A third cadet, Francisco Campos ’16, was also involved in the accident and is currently being treated at Memorial Hospital in Houston. Francisco is a freshman Landscape Architecture major from Houston, a member of Company F-1 and also serves with the Darling Recruiting Company.

I want to offer my sincere condolences to the families of Amy and Miguel, as well as their friends and fellow cadets on their loss. We all stand together as Aggies today as we mourn the loss of two of our own. Amy and Miguel will be missed by all of us.

As an Aggie, I hope their families will take solace in knowing that Amy and Miguel will never be forgotten, and that the unique Aggie spirit of camaraderie that is such an integral part of being an Aggie and a member of the Corps of Cadets will hold fast for them in this very difficult time. May God bless Amy, Miguel, and Francisco and their families.

“We are the Aggies, the Aggies are we. True to each other, as Aggies can be.”
