John Harold Tobin(1926 - 2012)
Tobin, John Harold John Harold Tobin passed away December 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 29, 1926, in Karnes City, Texas, to Janie Bell and Harold Whetstone Tobin. He is survived by his "one and only, forever and ever" wife of 59 years, Mary Jo Hollon Tobin of Wylie; his son, John Tobin Jr. of Houston; and his daughter, Julie Chaney and her husband, Fred, of Dallas. John was the proud "PaPa" to his three adoring granddaughters, Christine and Melissa Chaney and Jennifer Vick and her husband, Tanner, all of Dallas; he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Doyce Tobin of Windsor, Colorado, and members of the Dehnisch, Hollon, Millikin and Porter families. John's family moved from Karnes City to Mathis, Texas, his senior year, graduating from Mathis High School in 1943. John attended Texas A&M (Class of '47), joining the US Marine Corps in 1944 and graduating from A&M in December 1949. In 1953 he married Mary Jo (Jody) and began his career in banking, farming, and ranching. In 1974 he started Century II Realty Inc., and brokered farm, ranch, and residential properties while also teaching real estate at Bee County Jr. College. In 1985, John and Mary Jo moved to Dallas. John then developed residential subdivisions in Allen and then in Wylie, where they built their home. John was a member of the Bob Glaze Sunday School Class at Park Cities Baptist Church, where his memorial service will be held in Ellis Chapel on Thursday, December 13 at 1:00 PM. Funeral service and interment will be in Mathis on Saturday, December 15. John will be remembered for his sense of humor, which he kept to the very end. He had such a love for life; he loved reading, working crossword puzzles with his granddaughters, letter writing, hunting with his son, fishing, the outdoors, and most of all, he loved his family. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. John Brooks, Dr. Frank Dehnisch, Dr. Jack Martin, and Diana Hurst.
