Janet Wimberley Brewer
Janet Wimberley Brewer, formerly of Tyler, passed away on Oct. 26, 2012, in Birmingham, Ala., following a brief illness. A 1972 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Janet went on to earn degrees in landscape architecture and civil engineering from Texas A&M University. She was employed for many years by the city of Birmingham and the county of Jefferson, Alabama.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Norris A. Wimberley Jr. of Tyler; her sister, Ellen of Birmingham, Ala.; and by her beloved husband, John Brewer.

She is survived by her mother, Claire Elliott of Birmingham; sister, Vicki Wimberley Kay; and brothers, Norris A. Wimberley III (Tammy) and Smith S. Wimberley (Suzanne), all of Tyler; sisters, Patricia Simon (Larry Jimenez) and Ann Vaughan (Hal) of Birmingham; and sister, Cathy Garrett (Jody) of Parkersburg, W. Va. Janet will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Megan, Norris IV, Michelle, Terry, Mary, Claire, Grace, Christine, Becky and Danny.

Throughout her life, Janet was a dedicated and impassioned advocate for, and protector of animals. She personally rescued countless abandoned and abused dogs and she and John cared for them at their beautiful home in Warrior, Ala. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Bobo, and her two horses, Zip and Jeff.

A funeral service is scheduled at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, Ala., on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 1 p.m. As a memorial, please make a donation in her name to the SPCA of East Texas.
