BOWIE- George Monroe Blackmon, 73, passed away Sept. 22, 2012 in Bowie.
There is no scheduled visitation. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at the First United Methodist Church, Bowie with Scott Melton officiating.
Blackmon was born Sept. 8, 1939 in Bowie to Charles and Ruth Hodges Blackmon. He was a 1957 graduate of Bowie High School and a 1962 graduate of Texas A&M University at College Station with a degree in agronomy.
He married Nancy Spears on June 16, 1962. He served on the Bowie ISD school board and was a member of the Montague County Livestock Committee. He also served on the Bowie Memorial Hospital board of directors. He was involved in ranching and farming in Texas
and Costa Rica. In keeping with George’s loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to be an organ and tissue donor to benefit others through UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas.
Blackmon is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Blackmon.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Blackmon, Bowie; his two sons, Alan Blackmon and his wife Michelle, Huntsville, AL and David Blackmon, Bowie; four grandchildren, Jame Blackmon, Kami Blackmon, Cory Blackmon and Andi Blackmon, Huntsville, AL.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Bellevue Ex-Students Association Scholarship Fund in care of Kathy Gregory, 601 W. Wichita, Henrietta, TX 76365.
