Dr. Betty Lightfoot Overbaugh
HOUSTON —Dr. Betty Lightfoot Overbaugh, 74, of Houston, TX, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and educator passed away in Cypress, TX on July 14, 2012. Betty was born to longtime Decatur residents Margaret and Don Lightfoot in Ft. Worth.TX, grew
up in Decatur, TX, and lived in Houston and Dickinson,TX area most of her life. Betty was a graduate of Decatur High School, received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas-Austin, her master’s degree from the University of Houston-University Park,
and her PHD from Texas A&M University-College Station. Her career in education led to her to teaching and campus/central administrative positions in Houston ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, and Dickinson ISD.
Betty met her husband, Samuel Berrian Overbaugh, while a student at the University of Texas. She and Barry were married for fifty-four years. Betty cared tenderly and loving for her husband until her death. as he suffers from a long illness. Betty and Barry
lived in the Houston area during their life together. Each provided support for the other in their chosen careers while serving as loving and supportive parents to their family.
Betty and Barry’s marriage produced three wonderful families: Elizabeth Ann and and Mark Landin (children and step children: Trey, Amber, Leah and Shannon) of San Leon, TX.; Margaret Jeanne and Rocky Mahachek (children: Brandon, Brittany, Marissa, Riley, and
Rocky) of Cypress, TX ; and Ruth Berrian and Joey Boring (children: Jody, Gentry, and Jackson.) of College Station, TX. Betty is also survived by her brother, Larry Lightfoot and his wife, Beverly, of College Station, TX, her sister, Margaret Ann Payne of
Nassau Bay, TX. and Peter Overbaugh and his wife, Rosalie, of Maryland. Betty leaves several great-grand children, nieces, nephews and a host of friends to mourn her loss.
In lieu of flowers, donation in Betty’s honor may be made to the Betty Overbaugh Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Dickinson ISD Educational Foundation, P.O. Drawer. Z, Dickinson ,TX 77539. Per Betty’s request, no formal services will be held.
