Jimmy Ray "Jim" Bonner
1927 - 2005
Jimmy Ray Bonner, 78, of Woodway, passed away in his home surrounded by his family at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2005.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 19, in the chapel of OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, with Dr. Tom Bedichek and Omar Hernandez officiating.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.
Visitation with his family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the OakCrest Funeral Home. A memorial video of his life will be shown during the visitation.
Jim was born on March 28, 1927 in Eureka, Texas, near Corsicana. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and he graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in chemical engineering in 1951. Before his retirement in 1995, he worked at Hercules Incorporated
in McGregor.
He was an active member of the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in Waco for 21 years, and he led the singing there and at area nursing homes for 15 years. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Santa Gertrudis
Breeders Association.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Verna (Gaines) Bonner; brother, George Atmon Bonner; sister, Omeita Bonner, and daughter, Brenda Kay (Bonner) Vroman.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Micaela (Hernandez) Bonner of Woodway; two children, Bucky Bonner and wife, Leesa of Port Aransas, and Janna Graham and husband, Keith of Burleson; granddaughter, Kori Shea Kortis of Gatesville; and great grandson, Kutter
Kortis of Gatesville.
Pallbearers will be Keith Graham, Jose Luis, Richard Hill, Mario Sanchez, and Mike Johnston.
Memorials may be made to the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ, 307 N. 16th, Waco 76701, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3708 West Waco Drive, Waco 76710.
