September 26, 1925 - January 1, 2012
Loyd Vernice Devenport, age 86, of Old Fort, NC, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
He was born September 26, 1925 in Hunt County, Texas to the late Loyd Vernive Devenport, Sr. and Berchia Evelyn Gipson Devenport.
Mr. Devenport was a member of Church of Christ of Marion. He was a member of The Black Mountain Moose Lodge for several years.
Surviving is his wife Christine Walker Devenport, of the home. Son; Loyd Kyle Devenport, of Rutherfordton, step-son; Bill Walker, of Old Fort, two daughters; Donna Pat Mowdy, husband James, of McAlister, OK, Debra Dian Devenport, of Lincoln, CA, step-daughter; Pamela Diederich, husband Keith, of
Old Fort, sister; Martha Helen Citron, of Amarrilo, TX, 6 Grandchildren, and 1 step-grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Kirksey Funeral Chapel in Old Fort with Rev. Will Winchester officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Road Marion, NC 28752-3103 or to Rathbun Center of Asheville, 121 Sherwood Road Asheville, NC 28803-2426.
