Thomas M. Cox
(November 10, 1918 - October 11, 2011)
Thomas M. Cox, 92, passed away in Corinth, Texas at the Atrium Medical Center after a long illness, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.
Thomas was born in Palmer, Texas, to Thomas DeValson and Ida Della Fraze Cox. He grew up in the Garrett area and graduated from Ennis High School. in 1936. He received his bachelor’s degree in business from Texas A&M University in 1940. On June 15, 1942 he
married Marian Ball and they made their home in Waco, Texas after Thomas returned from military service. He was a second lieutenant in the United States Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from OCS in Australia and received
the Purple Heart while in combat in New Guinea. He spent eleven months recovering from the injuries when he returned to the states. After his discharge from the service, he was first employed for General Tire for six years. He then worked as credit manager
for General Foods in Arlington, Texas. He ended his career as credit manager for Lone Star Steel in Dallas. He retired after 25 years in 1983.
He was a member of the National Credit Men’s Association, Cedar Creek United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and he was a Mason. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, gardener and reader. He enjoyed Texas A&M football and Texas Ranger baseball. He also loved
spending time with his neighbors at Cedar Creek and friends at Sterling House Assisted Living in Denton, Texas where he lived the last four years.
He is survived by his daughters: Leslie Baker of Tool, Texas and Mary D. Smith and her husband, Paul of Denton, Texas; granddaughters: Amy Baker of Tool, Texas and Loren Smith of Denton, Texas; two great grandchildren: River Baker and Rain Baker of Maypearl,
Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Marian; three brothers, Roland, Kyle and Paul Cox along with five sisters, Ruth Osborn, Virgie Stewart, Hazel Boon, Ozema Ware and Mary Clark.
A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Chuck Weber, pastor of the Cedar Creek United Methodist Church officiating. There will be a visitation held at 1:00 p.m.
until the service time. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
