Joe Lane Field(1948-2011)
Public funeral services for Joe Lane Field will be held at 6 p.m. today (Oct. 5) at Eddy Lodge No. 21 AF&AM, 513 N. Canyon St. A Lodge of Sorrow will convene at 5:15 p.m. The Rev. Andy Harris of the Central Christian Church will officiate, with performances
by the Carlsbad Barbershop Choir. A Masonic funeral service will be delivered by Eddy Lodge No. 21 AF&AM. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. Joe Field, 62, of Winged Foot Drive, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1. 2011, at Carlsbad Medical Center.

Joe Lane Field was born in Pasadena, Texas, on Oct. 20, 1948, to Hardy Lane Field and Hazel Bernice (Hopkins) Field. Joe's formative years and basic education were in the Pasadena, Texas, school system. Joe attended the University of Houston, earning a Bachelor
of Science Degree. Joe continued his education and after graduate studies were at Texas A&M, College Station, Texas. Joe soon began with Las Alamos National Labs in Los Alamos, N.M., and transferred to the Carlsbad location in 1998.
Joe was a Certified Industrial Hygienist and was a valued asset to various companies and interests over the years. Joe seemed to find a home with Portage Incorporated and enjoyed a warm, friendly working relationship with all the good people he encountered
on a daily basis.
In the late 1980s, Joe met Phyllis Ann Coker, and thought she was the prettiest thing he'd ever seen. They married Nov. 24, 1990, in Las Cruces, N.M., and were blessed with a beautiful daughter. Joe was all about taking care of and providing for his family,
for they were also his very best friends.
Joe had a variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed leatherwork, Hamm radios and literature of every variety, both reading and writing, but Joe was the quintessential Masonic Fraternity Brother. Joe was a member of Masonic Blue Lodges Eddy No. 21, Artesia
No. 28, Hondo No. 74 and was the sitting Worshipful Master of Felix No. 29 in Hagerman, N.M. Joe was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Past High Priest in the Royal Arch Masons. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge
No. 1558.
Joe was preceded in death by both parents.
Joe is survived by his wife, Phyllis of the family home; daughters: Jessica Lynn Field of Portales, N.M., and Anna Field of Sweetwater, Texas; brothers: Kerry Field and his wife, Sandra of Pasadena, Texas, and Edwin Field and his wife, Marie of Newark, N.J.
