Joseph Enloe Courtney
January 21, 1938-June 16, 2011

Joseph Enloe Courtney, 73, went home to his Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2011 after a valiant battle with
cancer. His family welcomes you to visitation at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. and to the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 24, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. At a later date, family will gather at Restever Memorial Park for his internment.

Born January 21, 1938 to Maurice and Gladys Enloe Courtney in Woodville, Texas, Joe was a life-long resident of our state. After spending most of his public school years in Groveton, he moved with his family to Cameron and graduated from Yoe High School in 1955. The Courtneys then moved to Bryan, where Joe joined his father in working at Woodson Lumber Company. He attended Blinn Junior College, graduated from Texas A&M University in 1960, and served in the United States Army Reserve (90th Infantry Division).

With his experience at Woodson Lumber as the foundation of his unwavering and honest work ethic, Joe became a home builder in 1965 and joined Mr. Don Cain in developing The Oaks subdivision in Bryan. Later, Joe built homes throughout the Brazos Valley with a specific interest in assisting "the working" man or woman in acquiring quality, affordable housing, He was the first president of the Bryan-College Station Home Builders Association, was a founding member of our local Habitat for Humanity and Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) Ministries, and was one of the first builders in the Brazos Valley to participate in Elder Aid-a housing program for elderly, low-income residents with physical disabilities.

A lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and steward at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Joe viewed each of his projects-whether a house for one family or a program for the larger community-as an act of service to his Lord and Savior. Joe will be remembered by those who knew him best as a person of deep faith, limitless generosity, and unfailing good humor.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Faith Super; and his nephew, SGM Michael W. Clements.

His survivors include his loving wife, Victoria Lynn Courtney; sons, Devon Hanna of New Braunfels and Trent Hanna of Huntsville; granddaughter, Symphony Hanna of Canyon Lake; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Tom Clements of Trinity; a brother, Lee Courtney of Huntsville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Douglas (Skip) and Marilyn Super of Vancouver; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alice and Roy Super of Brenham; nieces, Penne Weidig and family of Bellaire, Pam Roffino and family of Dallas, Cheryl Clements and family of College Station, and Laura Elizabeth Super of Hawaii; nephews, Mark Clements and family of Manchester, N.H., and Michael Clements' family of Little Rock, Ark.

Joe had many friends whom he cherished like family, including the Mike Tomchesson family of Bryan, the Doug Webb family of Dallas, and two faithful employees Darthie Kees and Jeff Jones of College Station.

The family wishes to thank pallbearers Carlos Cordova, Ronnie Lightsey, John Roffino, John Schaffer, John Tomchesson, Doug Webb, Casey Weidig, and John Weidig. Additionally, honorary pallbearers are Charles Arnold, Johnny Bond, Sam Enloe, Chris Galindo, George Hardwick, John Hicks, Lawrence Link, Lee
McCleskey, William Seyfus, Gene Shillings, and Marvin Tate. The family wishes to acknowledge the service of Dr. Erin Fleener, Dr. Arezy Daftarian, the staff at St. Joseph's Manor, and the oncology nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital. Memorials in Joe's name are welcome at Habitat for Humanity, S.O.S. Ministries, or the church of your choice.
