Gene Merrell Goodwin(1924 - 2011)
Gene Merrell Goodwin, 87, passed into heaven on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Service: Celebration of Gene's life will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Barbara Davis, 3105 Teakwood, Bedford. Memorials: Flowers and donations to a favorite charity are requested.
Gene Merrell Goodwin was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Archer City to Charles Edward Goodwin and Rita Snider Goodwin. Gene was a World War II bomber pilot and Korean War veteran. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned two engineering degrees. He
earned a master's in engineering at SMU, and he retired from General Dynamics in 1985. Gene and his wife of 59 years, Carolyn, raised four children in Fort Worth before retiring to Pecan Plantation. Gene and Carolyn spent most of their time playing golf, traveling
and attending Texas A&M football games.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Aline Goodwin, Corine Baron and Eddie Bradley; and brothers, James Goodwin, Gary Goodwin and N.M. Goodwin. Survivors: His loving wife, Carolyn; daughters, Debra Syfert and husband, Rodney, Kim Somerville and husband,
Bill, Barbara Davis and husband, John; son, Gregg and wife, Jody; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
